Man charged with fraudulent tire purchases

LOCKPORT – A Wheatfield man was arraigned in State Supreme Court Thursday on charges of using checks written on a closed account to buy thousands of dollars worth of tires from the Niagara Falls location of Dunn Tire last November.

Ernest L. Hoover III, 34, of Niagara Falls Boulevard, pleaded not guilty to third-degree grand larceny and seven counts of issuing bad checks, Assistant District Attorney John N. Philipps Jr. said.

Under the law, a theft must be worth at least $3,000 to qualify as third-degree grand larceny.
