The five-acre fountain and wading pool opens for the summer with a splash and a party at Martin Luther King Park in Buffalo Monday. Come picnic, get faces painted and play in the water at the “Splish Splash Summer Bash,” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The city’s state-of-the-art water attraction at the Humboldt Basin, near the Buffalo Museum of Science, changes with the seasons. In the spring and fall it is a reflecting pool. In the winter, it’s an ice rink. For its summer life as a “splash pad,” it will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Friday, June 26 through Labor Day.
The $4.5 million water feature debuted as an all-season attraction in the summer of 2013. It is in the heart of the park neighborhood and is intended to attract new residents and businesses.
