Federal money will help Arcade and Machias make critical improvements to their sewage systems.
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand made the announcement Wednesday. Machias will use $500,000 to build a wastewater collection system around Lime Lake and connect to an existing sewer line near the treatment plant in Arcade.
The money will come through the US. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal grant program intended to help with safe drinking water and protect the environment.
“This federal funding will help take a tremendous financial burden off community residents and allow this project, which is vital to long-term health and prosperity, to begin right away,” said Schumer in a press release statement.
