Stolen cell phone leads to teen’s arrest in holdup

A 17-year-old from Mills Street was charged with two felonies after police located him on Lafayette Avenue by tracking a cell phone stolen earlier from a man on Broadway on the East Side.

Police said the victim was walking on Broadway near Mohr Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. when he was approached by three men, two on foot and one on a bicycle. The bicyclist displayed a black handgun and demanded the victim’s property, which he turned over, including a Nokia cell phone, his car keys and wallet containing credit cards.

Later, police tracked the cell phone to an address on Lafayette Avenue and arrested the teen, who was identified by the victim. He was charged with second-degree robbery, because a weapon was displayed during the crime, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Both are Class C felonies.
