Amherst police charge teen after assault in Harlem Road area

One teenager was charged with assaulting another in a wooded area off Harlem Road late last week, Amherst police announced Monday.

It happened last Friday afternoon, when a 16-year-old boy was looking for a friend. The victim came across a 17-year-old boy who claimed to be looking for the same person, police said

The older boy hit the younger one in the head with a brick, jumped on his back and grabbed his cell phone, according to police. The victim fended off the attack and ran for help; the suspect was found by officers a short time later.

The 17-year-old boy, whose name wasn’t released, was charged with a felony count of assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Following arraignment before Town Justice Kara Buscaglia, he was released after posting $500 bail.
