Lowdown: Eriksson Ek vaulted up the list of European prospects this season, finishing third after a midterm ranking of No. 22. While six points doesn’t sound like a lot, the center had the most points of any under-18 player in the Swedish elite league. He split the season between Farjestad and its junior team.
It was against players his own age where Eriksson Ek really showed his dominance. He had 21 goals and 32 points in 25 games with Farjestad Junior, leading the league in finding the net. He also played in the under-18 world championships and led Sweden with five goals. He scores by driving the net, a trait that carries over into the North American game.
Hard work is Eriksson Ek’s forte. His determination comes through on a nightly basis. He still needs to fill out his frame. He can increase his playmaking skills.
They said it: “He is a very competitive, powerful center with great speed, a good strong shot and excellent puck-handling. He is creative on the offense while reliable on defense. Likes to go to the net to create scoring chances." – Goran Stubb, director of European scouting.
The Buffalo News is profiling 30 prospects in 30 days leading up to the NHL Draft, which will be held June 26-27.
