The Niagara County Health Department of Health and the Office for the Aging are offering two free six-week disease self-management workshops.
A diabetes workshop series is scheduled to begin July 24, at the Wheatfield Towers, 6849 Plaza Drive, Wheatfield. It will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Fridays. The series of classes is designed for anyone who has been diagnosed with diabetes. The workshop is designed to help participants maintain active and fulfilling lifestyles while improving problem-solving and decision-making skills to confront the challenges of living with diabetes. Attendees also will learn how to improve food choices, increase physical activity and coping skills to maintain weight loss and healthy lifestyles.
A free chronic disease self-management workshop series begins July 9 in the Town of Niagara Community Center, 7000 Lockport Road, and will run for six consecutive Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. This program is meant for individuals with any type of ongoing health condition, and complements their existing health care. Instructors encourage caregivers to attend as well, since the program provides opportunities for caregivers to share and support each other.
Registration for both programs is available by calling the Office for the Aging at 438-3030 or the Health Department Nursing Division at 278-1900.
