Banners, items on sale to fund 150th events

LOCKPORT – The Lockport Sesquicentennial Committee is planning a series of 150 events to mark the city’s 150th birthday Saturday through July 5. To help fund those events, the committee is having special “Lockport 150” banners created with the names of individuals, groups or businesses.

The $150 single-sided banners will be hung along Main Street throughout the summer.

The committee is also selling lawn signs, T-shirts, commemorative DVDs and lapel pins. An order form is available online at Lockport150.com.

Erie canalway

Heritage Corridor photo entries sought

Entries are being accepted through Aug. 28 for the 10th annual Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Photo Contest.

Amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit images in four categories: On the Water, Along the Trail, Canal Communities, and Classic Canal. Images must be taken within the National Heritage Corridor, which is comprised of the Erie, Oswego, Cayuga-Seneca, and Champlain canals, their historic alignments, and the surrounding communities. The rules and entry form may be found at eriecanalway.org.

Winning photos will be featured in the 2016 Erie Canalway calendar, which is available free of charge each December.

Ransomville

Bike rodeo scheduled for Stevenson school

RANSOMVILLE – The Town of Porter bike rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Stevenson Elementary School, 3745 Ransomville Road.

The Niagara County Traffic and Safety Division will be there to inspect and fix participants’ bikes. All participants will receive a free helmet. All children who live in the town are eligible.
