MOWATT, Charles P. "Charlie"

MOWATT - Charles P. "Charlie" June 10, 2015 of East Amherst, NY; beloved husband for 51 years of Marian Ruth (Sanbury) and devoted father of Gregory of Buffalo, NY; son of the late David S. and Edith H. (nee Berg) Mowatt; survived by brothers David Mowatt and John Mowatt, and sisters Edith Jesernig and Grace (Hugh) Burritt; also survived by many treasured nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Charles graduated from Kenmore High School, obtained a B.S. degree from the College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry in 1958, and served as a radio operator in the US Army. He enjoyed a long career in New York's southern tier as a forester and supervisor with the Department of Environmental Conservation. After retirement, the Mowatts settled at the family farm near Franklinville, NY, where they delivered Meals on Wheels. Charles was a member of the Center for Inquiry - Transnational, and he and his wife were active supporters of the CFI-WNY branch's Secular Families Network programs. They initiated and facilitated gatherings of the Friends of Robert Green Ingersoll, a freethought group dedicated to science, reason, freedom of inquiry, and humanist values. Charlie has generously donated his body to SUNYAB's Anatomical Gift Program for medical study and research. A secular memorial ceremony for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 10:00 am at the Center for Inquiry, 1310 Sweet Home Road in Amherst, NY 14226. Flowers are graciously declined. Donations in memory of Charlie made to CFI, PO Box 741, Amherst NY 14226 are encouraged.
