Portions of several roads will be incorporated into the Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway, extending it by 37 miles into Cattaraugus County.
This week, the State Legislature passed legislation sponsored by Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean, and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio, R-Gowanda.
The expanded byway will incorporate portions of Route 219, and State Routes 240 and 242 within the Towns of Ashford and Ellicottville, and the Village of Ellicottville.
A nonprofit organization seeking to promote economic development in the Southtowns is the driving force behind the byway’s creation and extension.
Currently, it forms a 108-mile triangle with Orchard Park, East Aurora and Springville at the three corners. Route 20A forms the northern boundary.
