NHL draft prospects to take batting practice with Marlins

In addition to hearing their names called during the NHL Draft, Jack Eichel and the other top prospects will swing for the fences, pass on their skills to the children of South Florida and learn when their new teams will play next season.

The NHL has released its schedule of events for draft week, and the activities include the unveiling of the 2015-16 schedule. The league will release the schedule Thursday morning. The season will start the week of Oct. 5.

The first round of the draft will begin at 7 p.m. Friday in Florida’s BB&T Center, with rounds two through seven continuing at 10 a.m. next Saturday.

Before the prospects take the stage, they’ll be taken out to the ballgame. The top prospects will take batting practice with the Miami Marlins at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Marlins Park. Last year’s draft-eligible players took their cuts in the Philadelphia Phillies’ stadium.

The teenagers will be back in their element Thursday morning with a hockey clinic held in the Panthers’ practice rink.
