Derby man arrested on drug count after fleeing police

A 32-year-old Derby man was charged with drug possession after he tried to run away when police confronted him late Thursday night in the yard of a vacant house in the first block of Grant Street.

Christian J. Lopez-Rivera, who was caught at the intersection of Grant and Ferguson Avenue, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal trespass and obstructing governmental administration. Officers reported finding he had a tin cup containing heroin and two bottles of liquid methadone. Two other men spotted in the Grant Street backyard escaped.
