EarthLink will eliminate 65 jobs when it closes a customer service center in Amherst.
The Atlanta-based Internet service provider decided to eliminate its TechCare help desk business, “as it no longer aligns with our long-term direction,” said Pamela O’Connor, an EarthLink spokeswoman, in a statement.
The job cuts are scheduled to begin Sept. 30, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor. Workers were notified last week.
The employees are IT help desk workers, providing service to EarthLink customers who outsourced their IT help desk support.
“We do not take decisions about job reductions lightly and are committed to fair and compassionate treatment of our people throughout the process,” O’Connor said. She said the company held an on-site job fair to help with outplacement.
EarthLink’s support center is at 275 Northpointe Parkway. EarthLink acquired two divisions of Snyergy Global Solutions in 2011.
