Sprint Cup

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is off this weekend. The next race is the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on June 28 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. … Kevin Harvick remains the points leader with a 15-point edge over second-ranked Martin Truex Jr.


Event: Owens Corning Atticat 300, Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, Ill.

TV: Saturday, 9:30 p.m. ET -- Fox Sports 1.

Then and Now: This will be the first of two NXS races this season at Chicagoland Speedway. Chase Elliott won this race last year, while Kevin Harvick won the September 2014 race there. Harvick and Kyle Busch are the leading winners in the 18 NXS races that have been held to date at the 1.5-mile track, three apiece. Busch’s most recent win at Chicagoland came in September 2013. … Busch won last weekend’s race at Michigan, his first NXS win since last season. … Last Saturday, Chris Buescher increased his lead in the NXS standings to 25 points over second-place Ty Dillon. Elliott is in third place, 35 points back, while Regan Smith is in fourth, trailing by 55 points. Darrell Wallace Jr. is in fifth place, 61 points back.

Camping World Truck

Event: American Ethanol 200, Iowa Speedway, Newton, Iowa.

TV: Friday, 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

Then and Now: This is the ninth time the Camping World Truck Series will visit the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway. Erik Jones won this race last season. Timothy Peters owns the most race victories there, two. … Cole Custer won last weekend’s race at Gateway Motorsports Park, just outside St. Louis. … Matt Crafton had a rough go of it at Gateway (21st place), but he still managed to hold onto his lead in the Truck Series points standings. He is in front of Tyler Reddick by 12 points. Third-place Johnny Sauter trails by 30 points, and Jones is 33 points back in fourth. John Wes Townley is a distant 69 points back in fifth place.

Verizon IndyCar

After six races and Indianapolis 500 qualifying in the last six weeks (May 9-June 14), the IndyCar Series enjoys a weekend off before resuming June 27 with the MAV TV 500 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. NASCAR also will be in California the same weekend, but Sonoma is about 500 miles north of Fontana. … Josef Newgarden earned his first win of the season Sunday at Toronto. Luca Filippi finished second, and he was followed by Helio Castroneves. … As he has since the first race of the season (which he won in St. Petersburg, Fla.), Juan Pablo Montoya remains No. 1 in the point standings. He leads Will Power by 27 points.

Mello Yello Draft Racing

Event: NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, Bristol Dragway, Bristol, Tenn.

TV: Qualifying, Saturday, tape delay, 8-10 p.m. ET on ESPN2; final eliminations, Sunday, live, 3-6 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Then and Now: Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel), Tommy Johnson Jr. (Funny Car) and Erica Enders (Pro Stock) won this event last season at the drag strip located across the street from the famous Bristol Motor Speedway. … Last weekend in New Hampshire, Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) won their respective classes. It was the second win this season for both Schumacher and Force, while Anderson won his third race of the season. … Heading into this weekend, Antron Brown remains atop the Top Fuel standings, but he saw his 118-point lead over Schumacher drop to just 33 points after the latter’s win at New Hampshire. Spencer Massey is a distant third in the standings, 133 points back. In Funny Car, Matt Hagan increased his lead over Ron Capps from 39 to 61 points after New Hampshire, while Force vaulted into third place, 94 points behind Hagan. In Pro Stock, Anderson saw his lead jump from 22 to 70 points over second-place Enders.
