Ridgeway man arrested for thefts of funds from youth football program

ALBION – Elija H. Howard, 41, the former commissioner of the Medina Lake Ontario Youth Athletic League’s Youth Football Program, was arrested Monday for allegedly misappropriating several thousand dollars of league funds for some time, Orleans County Sheriff Scott D. Hess announced Wednesday.

Following an investigation by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office and the Orleans County Major Felony Crimes Task Force headed by investigators C. L. Black and K.M. Strickland Jr., Howard was charged with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny.

At his arraignment Monday before Ridgeway Town Justice Joseph Kujawa he was released on bail pending further court proceedings Friday. Neither Howard or his lawyers could be reached later to comment. Hess said the alleged thefts involved numerous transactions using the football program’s debit/credit card for purchases that were not legitimate.
