A food company that originated on Seneca Street in Buffalo has acquired the trademarks and recipes of a wing sauce with local roots.
Pellicano Specialty Foods, Inc., owner of Texas Brand Sauce Company, has acquired Ferrantes, which manufactures wing sauce. Ferrantes was started about 30 years ago by owners of a local supermarket chain in Amherst, where they made pasta and wing sauces that were eventually manufactured at a separate location. The sauce business was eventually sold to Shanks Extracts in Pennsylvania.
Pellicanos acquired the Ferrantes recipes and trademarks from Shanks Extracts, and plans to maintain the wing sauce business and bring back some of Ferrantes’ Italian sauces, according to a press release.
