Erie Canal cruise to benefit Lockport mural project

LOCKPORT – A special Erie Canal cruise and dinner to benefit the downtown Lockport mural project is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 2 at Lockport Locks and Erie Canal Cruises in Lockport.

Advance purchases of the $50 tickets are required, and the trip is limited to the first 150 registrants, committee member David R. Kinyon said. Reservations may be made by calling Kinyon at 638-1119 or online at MuralonMain.org.

The event is one of a series of activities designed to help raise $30,000 needed to create an historic Erie Canal-themed mural on the east side wall of 51 Main St. Following the one-hour cruise aboard the authentic paddle-wheel boat, attendees will be served dinner at the boat company’s patio grove, with music by pianist Ken Kaufman and vocalist Melissa Croff.

Muralist Augustina Droze has been commissioned to create the 42-by-60-foot color painting, which has already attracted the support of nearly 100 contributors to the campaign fund. The project is chaired by George Fritz, owner of Mills Jewelers.
