June 15, 1970: The News is back in print after truck hoppers' strike

After a four-day labor shut down, The News was back in print 45 years ago today.

Hoppers — the men who assist the drivers on News circulation trucks — had been on strike and were picketing The News.  About 450 of the paper’s 1,200 employees respected the picket line.

This was the first labor work stoppage in the history of The News.
