Buffalo artists at the Whitney Museum

Buffalonians know that their city has played a crucial role in the development of American art. But it's nice to be reminded of it every so often.

The latest case in point is on view in new Whitney Museum's inaugural exhibition "America is Hard to See," an often thrilling tour through American art history spread across several floors of Renzo Piano's gorgeous new building at the eastern edge of Manhattan.

Among the pieces I spotted by Buffalo-born artists were...

"Madonna and Child," Allan D'Arcangelo, 1963
