The 20th annual free Kids Fishing Derby will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Niawanda Park Bandshell.

A first-place prize will be awarded for each age group for the largest fish caught and the awards ceremony is slated for 11:30 a.m. The age groups are as follows: age 7 and younger; 8-10-year-olds; 11-13 year-olds; 14-16 year-olds. Those age 16 must have a fishing license.

Free bait will be provided by Gander Mountain and Big Catch. There will also be a casting contest, fish bowl contest, a trout pond by Niagara River Anglers Association and more.

Grand prizes include a four-hour fishing charter for four people, a kayak, a four person floatation boat and a loaded tackle box.

The derby is sponsored by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, White’s Turf Crew, the Exchange Club and the Elk’s Lodge.

This week:

• The Common Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, 200 Niagara St. An informal session begins at 6.

• The TNT Gateway Market continues from 5 p.m. until 8 each Thursday during the summer at Tonawanda Gateway Harbor, along the Erie Canal. The market features artisan merchants, food trucks and live entertainment.
