PENDLETON – For the seventh consecutive year, Starpoint Central School student Michael Pyskaty has won an award from C-SPAN in the public affairs cable network’s StudentCam documentary competition.
Pyskaty, a senior who has entered the event annually since he was in sixth grade, won a $250 honorable mention award for his video entitled “Cracking the Common Core.” The C-SPAN bus will stop at Starpoint at 9 a.m. Wednesday to give Pyskaty his award.
It’s the sixth year in a row he has won $250. The Cambria resident’s first entry, a sixth-grade piece on the state of the auto industry, won him third prize in the middle school category and a $750 check.
The 22nd annual C-SPAN contest offered a $100,000 prize fund, with 150 student awards and 53 teacher awards selected from 2,280 videos submitted nationwide.
