Poetry and Literature Calendar (June 14-June 20)

Monday, 7 to 8 p.m.: Rescheduled June debut of Buffalo Reading Invasion 2015 – a flash mob-like gathering to celebrate the role of reading, public space and community in our lives. Bring a book, a chair, and several friends or family members for an hour of quiet reading in one of Buffalo’s best-loved public spaces. This month’s location: Bidwell Parkway, east of Elmwood Avenue running toward Buffalo Seminary and Potomac Avenue. Visit for further details.

Tuesday, 7 p.m.: Poet Perry Nicholas will join with singer-songwriter Maria Sebastian-Nicholas for an evening of music and poetry at the 189 Public House, 189 Main St., East Aurora.

Wednesday, 7:30 P.M.: The Screening Room Third Wednesday Series reading featuring writers Susan Daniels, Denise Amodeo Schneider and Carl Schneider. Additional reading slots available. Northtown Plaza Business Center, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. $2.

Saturday, 7 p.m.: Debut of the 2015 Silo City Reading Series featuring poets Zachary Schomburg and Alana Kelley, the Philadelphia-based alternative country/indie folk band Small Houses, and an exhibit of photographs by visual artist Nick Torsell. Schomburg lives in Portland, Ore., where he edits and publishes Octopus Books. He is the author of four collections of poems, “The Book of Joshua” (Black Ocean Press, 2014), “Fjords, volume 1” (Spork Press, 2012), “Scary, No Scary” (Black Ocean, 2009) and “The Man Suit” (Black Ocean 2007). Alana Kelley is a practicing textual and visual artist. Her work, consisting of video installation, mixed media collage, material and performance poetry, embraces contemporary styles, centralizing around the existent ultramodern and millennial. She is currently studying ecocriticism, poetics and literary theory at the University at Buffalo. Silo City complex on Ohio Street at Childs Street in Buffalo.
