A Grand Island restaurant was evacuated Sunday morning during what town fire officials deemed a “fryer fire.”
Firefighters responded to the McDonald’s at 2231 Grand Island Boulevard at 9:32 a.m. and used a dry chemical extinguisher to put out the fire, Assistant Chief Mark Sadkowski said in a news release. Meanwhile, the restaurant was evacuated as a precaution.
The fire was confined to the fryer and no damage to food preparation equipment or the building structure was reported.
Restaurant staff told fire officials the restaurant was closed until noon while cleanup required by the Erie County Department of Health was conducted.
