Sarah Godfrey-Singleton of Depew shot a 74 to finish in a tie for third in the New York State girls golf championship, which took place this weekend at the College Golf Course in Delhi.
Godfrey-Singleton, representing Section VI, had a 73 in Saturday’s opening round, and her two-round total of 147 was 3 over par. That was four shots behind Lindsay May, who defended her title. May, the only player under par, was one shot ahead of Section I’s Lauren Peter.
Other scores from Section VI were: Elena Lopez of Clarence (171), Alexis Kim of Clarence (173), Emily Isaacson of Jamestown (179), Sam Gaffney of Williamsville East (191), Marina Kessler of Fredonia (191), Kirsta Wheelock of Fredonia (207), and Simon Riter of Williamsville East (213). Marissa Delmonaco of Southwestern withdrew.
Rowing event concludes
Canisius High School wrapped up its participation in USRowing’s Youth Nationals in Sarasota and Bradenton, Fla., on Sunday.
The Crusaders placed second in the Men’s Youth Lightweight 8+ Class C Final. They were fifth in the Men’s Youth 2 Class B Final, and also placed sixth in the Men’s Youth 4+ Class B Final.
Eighteen national titles were awarded at the event. Six of the 18 races were photo finishes in what was called the biggest and most competitive field in the competition’s history.
