Lowdown: Wherever Meier plays, the coach puts him on the top line. He’s shown he deserves it. He tormented goalies in the Quebec league by working well with Nikolaj Ehlers, selected ninth overall by Winnipeg last year. On the Swiss world junior team, Meier put up a point per game with former No. 11 overall pick Kevin Fiala. At the CHL Prospects Game, Meier skated with Connor McDavid and recorded three points.
Meier is a pure sniper who made a jump from 17 goals to 44 by improving his skating. He scores when it matters, too, leading his league with 10 game-winning goals. He set a franchise record with 23 power-play goals. He recorded 10 goals and 21 points in 14 playoff games.
He speaks four languages (Swiss, French, English and German) but is still adapting to the North American game. His size and strength helped him dominate against the smaller junior players, so he’ll need to keep a competitive fire against similarly sized pros.
He said it: “I’m a power forward and have skill. I really like to shoot the puck and have a good shot. I play physical. … I always wanted to play in the NHL and I think I have the size for it, the strength for it.” – Meier.
