Front page June 12, 1915: Rumor says Col. Ward, of Pumping Station fame, has resigned as head of public works

Among the local news on the day's front page:

"Report Col. Ward has resigned, mayor surprised at rumor"

"A report became current today that Colonel Francis G. Ward, commissioner of public workds, has submitted his resignation to Mayor Fuhrmann, because of ill health. The colonel and Mrs. Ward at present are on their ranch in Washington, it was stated by a daughter at their home in Seventh street.

"The mayor, when questioned about the matter by a NEWS representative, appeared surprised and emphatically stated that he knew nothing about it."
