Doreen Rao, the former director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, has been busy. Recently, in Chicago, she opened the Rao Center for Choral and Contemplative Arts, and she is leading workshops there as well as traveling extensively to direct myriad choirs. Rao will be in residence in Buffalo for a week leading up to “Symphony of Choirs: Peace Is Every Voice,” a concert Saturday in St. Joseph Cathedral. The concert is described as “a celebration of song – sacred and secular, classical and modern, calling for peace in our time.”
Rao will be directing three choirs: her own Buffalo Master Chorale, the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir and the St. Joseph University Choir. It’s not often that three of the area’s most esteemed choirs join forces like this and, best of all, the concert is free. (Admission is by free-will offering.)
“Symphony of Choirs” takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Cathedral (50 Franklin St.). For info, call 854-5855.
