A radiothon Friday will raise both money and awareness about the effort to cover part of the Kensington Expressway and restore the Humboldt Parkway community that was split when the freeway was built.
The Restore Our Community Coalition is hosting the radiothon from 2 to 4 p.m. on WUFO 1080-AM. Money raised would continue the movement and “promote the message of restoring a disconnected community,” according to the coalition of businesses, civic institutions, block clubs and neighbors.
The goal is to put a deck over 1.2 miles of the Kensington from East Ferry to Best streets and restore the tree-lined parkway that Frederick Law Olmsted created in the 1870s. The project is estimated to cost about $560 million.
