Reading is the focus this summer – at libraries and other places around Erie County.
The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library has launched its annual summer reading period, which runs throughout the season and will include literature competitions and events at various local library branches and elsewhere.
The library-based events will be held in a variety of branch locations around the county. Other events will take place at Erie Community College and Holland Speedway, as well as at other sites, according to the library system.
The roster of summer programs includes the “Battle of the Books” event, which will match teams of local children against one another in a contest to read and answer questions about books.
That competition will be held on Aug. 1 at ECC’s South Campus.
In addition, the library will hold a special evening on Aug. 22 at Holland Speedway.
According to the library system, around 10,000 children – and almost 11,000 books – were involved in summer reading efforts and activities in the county last year.
