Paul A. Sweeney, senior title researcher

Paul A. Sweeney of Amherst, a senior title researcher for Niagara Square Abstract Co., died Tuesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 55.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Sweeney was a 1977 graduate of Amherst High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Canisius College.

From 1977 to 1983, he was a lance corporal with the Marine Corps Reserve.

Mr. Sweeney had worked for Niagara Square Abstract Co. since 1997.

He served as a basketball coach at the YMCA and was a volunteer at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. His interests included golf and NBA basketball, and he enjoyed taking day trips, walks at Niawanda Park and campfires in the backyard.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel and Matthew; his parents, Gertrude K. Maher and James J.; and four brothers, James, Robert, Brian and Thomas.

A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Protocol Restaurant, 6766 Transit Road, Amherst.
