ASHVILLE – A motorcyclist from Ashville was killed in a crash with a truck Thursday morning in North Harmony, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said.
Richard F. Jensen, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office, Lakewood-Busti Police and the State Police enforcement determined that “the crash was caused by a culmination of contributing factors.”
Authorities said that at about 7:30 a.m., a Kingsview Enterprises truck hauling an asphalt paver being operated by Tyler S. Borowski, 29, of Bradford, Pa., was traveling west on Route 474. At the same time, Jensen was eastbound on Route. 474.
The truck was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Magnolia Road and failed to yield the right to the motorcycle. The motorcycle, “traveling at a high rate of speed,” was unable to avoid the collision. Investigators were trying to determine how fast it was going. The speed limit is 35 mph on the road.
“Jensen laid the bike down on the pavement and slid for approximately 125 feet,” a statement said. “The motorcycle then struck the Kingsview truck in the front tire, causing the motorcycle to break into dozens of pieces.”
