M&T Bank Corp. has elected Newton P.S. Merrill, a retired Bank of New York executive, to its board of directors.
Merrill was also elected a director of the board of M&T Bank, its principal banking subsidiary.
Merrill spent 40 years with Bank of New York, retiring in 2003. He also held an executive role at the Bank of Boston. He is chairman of the board of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts.
“He will be a strong addition to our board, and will enhance our culture of conservative and consistent community banking,” said Robert G. Wilmers, M&T chairman and CEO.
