Letter: Give board majority a chance to fix schools

Give board majority a chance to fix schools

The misguided citizens of Buffalo who constantly criticize the actions of the Buffalo School Board majority should be thankful that the majority members have gotten involved. They’re some of the best and brightest in the Buffalo community.

If I were them, I’d be banging my head against the wall on a weekly basis over some of the antics that have taken place against them. I seriously question what the detractors’ motivations are. Why not give these new members an opportunity to succeed on behalf of the children?

Doing the same things year after year have produced some of the poorest results in the United States. The country as a whole is ranked 30th in math and 20th in literature in a recently published international educational survey. Even taken with a grain of salt, these results for the greatest country in the world are distressing. Which board members actually care about the kids’ education as opposed to some personal agenda?

The majority members don’t deserve this aggravation. Give them a shot. If their reforms do not succeed, vote them out. This is still the democratic way to voice your opinion as a citizen. Stop the mob-like protests; stop the shouting and intimidation. Stop using the politicians to support your views and backdoor attempts to thwart reform.

Like I said at the start, I’d be banging my head against the wall. Let’s unite and get it done. It’s far too important not to.
