St. Bonaventure's women's basketball team will be among the 16 teams participating in the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament this season, the school announced. It will be Bona's first-ever appearance in the event, and Bona will play a first-round home game on Nov. 13.
The matchups for the first round will be announced next week. The rest of the field, with their conference in parentheses, is: Alabama State (Southwestern Athletic), Baylor (Big 12), Chattanooga (Southern), Dartmouth (Ivy), DePaul (Big East), Drexel (Colonial), Indiana (Big Ten), Jacksonville (Atlantic Sun), McNeese State (Southland), Siena (Metro Atlantic), South Florida (American), Southern Illinois (Missouri Valley), Southern Miss (Conference USA), Tennessee State (Ohio Valley), and UT-Arlington (Sun Belt).
All of the teams in the Preseason WNIT are guaranteed three games. All games, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools at their home facility. The second round will be played on Nov. 15-16; the semifinals Nov. 19 and the championship on Nov. 22. For those teams who lose their opening games, a consolation round will be played Nov. 20-21.
St. Bonaventure will return four starters from last year, led by All-Conference senior forward Katie Healy, a Lancaster native. Bona was 15-15 last season.
