Options for Hip and Knee Pain: Talk by Dr. Nicholas Violante from Excelsior Orthopaedics, 4 p.m. Thursday, Garden Gate Health Care Facility, 2365 Union Road, Cheektowaga. Free and open to the public. Violante will discuss total hip and knee arthroplasty, common causes and symptoms of arthritis and treatment options. RSVP by Tuesday to 668-8100.


Kids Book program: For children ages 2 to 6, 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dog Ears Bookstore & Café, 688 Abbott Road, South Buffalo. Event will feature Lyndsey D’Arcangelo, author of “Maggie’s Adventure: I’m Going Over Niagara Falls in a Barrel.” Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the cost is $15 per child. Personal Training Instruction to train those with special needs: Local fitness trainers and exercise instructors will receive specialized training on modifying exercise programs to make them more inclusive to individuals with disabilities through a one-day program being offered at Daemen College, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Schenck Hall, Room 202. Open to experienced and new fitness professionals, certified participants who complete the free program will receive National Strength and Conditioning Association approved CEUs. Mommy & Baby Expo: Registration starts at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Hospital Cafeteria of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, 5300 Military Road, Lewiston. Meet pediatricians at 9 a.m., OB/GYNs at 10 and tour the Center for Women, Labor & Delivery Suites all morning. For registration, call 298-2145.

Juneteenth Annual Scholastic Chess Championship: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Main Place Mall, Upper Level, 390 Main St.; cost is $10. Mail checks by Thursday, with full name, age, email and telephone. Walk Into Summer: Hour-long tours scheduled each hour noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Griffis Sculpture Park, Mill Valley Road Site, 6902 Mill Valley Road, East Otto. The event will also feature a free wine tasting by the Winery of Ellicottville, live music by Kaleidoscope Sky and free grilled hot dogs while they last. Park-goers are encouraged to bring their own picnics, snacks, and beverages, especially plenty of water. The event will be held weather permitting; check the Griffis Sculpture Park Facebook page for cancellation info. Suggested park admission is $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free.
