Bennett Beach in Evans will open for summer hours, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, beginning Saturday.
Summer hours will be in effect through Sept.7, according to the Erie County Department of Parkes, Recreation & Forestry. Swimming at the beach will be permitted only when ifeguards are on duty. The gates to the beach parking lot will be locked at 7:30 p.m., officials said.
Items that are prohibed at the beach include alcohol and glass containers; smoking; pit and cooking fires; floatation devices, such as lifejackets, floats, tubes and rafts; pets and loud music. Parks Commissioner Troy P. Schinzel said the rules will be enforced with the assistance of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Evans Police Department. Patrons are also reminded to tidy up after themselves and discard trash in the provided recepticles, and to stay out of dunes and protected areas of the beach.
