A.J. Greer, like Jack Eichel, just finished his freshman season at Boston University. Greer doesn’t think they will have a sophomore season together.
Though Eichel hasn’t committed to playing in the NHL next year, Greer isn’t expecting the center to be back at BU.
“No, I think he’s ready,” Greer said Saturday. “He’s a pro. In his mind he’s a pro, and as a hockey player he’s a pro.”
Greer, who spent the week with Eichel at the NHL Scouting Combine, made it clear the Sabres will get a quality player and person when they draft Eichel with the second overall pick.
“He’s going to do great things,” Greer said. “I strongly think that he should go first. He’s a great player, a great person. He’s an organization guy and one of the classiest guys I’ve met.
“It was definitely special, all the attention we got just the way he acted like a pro everywhere. Whether it was on the ice, in the gym, in the classroom, it kind of gave the impression to do the same thing and put in as much work as he does. I think that’s why we were so successful is we had guys like that on the team.”
