Tugboat playhouse for kids almost finished at Canalside

Work is expected to be completed Saturday on a tugboat in the children’s beach behind Clinton’s Dish.

When it’s finished, kids will be able to climb aboard and jump off the front deck or back cabin of the colorful wooden structure, or pretend they’re piloting the boat from the wheelhouse.

The 24.5-by-11.5-foot tug boat was designed by Kids Crooked House of Maine. Glen Halliday, its founder, is putting the tug boat together. The design is based on tug boats from the Great Lakes Towing Company, which has been in operation for more than a century.

The tug boat is presented by Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. and is sponsored by EduKids, which provides childcare and kindergarten readiness programs in Western New York.
