Air Force Staff Sgt. Michael A. Klose, 24, died May 24 in a motorcycle accident near Daun, Germany, about 25 miles from Spangdahlem Air Base where he was stationed. He was 24.
He was born in Dunkirk and graduated from Fredonia High School in 2009. While in high school, he worked at the Fredonia Hardware store and after graduation worked at Lena’s Pizza & Sub Shop while running his own lawn care startup business.
He joined the Air Force in May 2011. Following graduation from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, he spent 20 weeks in aerospace ground equipment training. After graduation, he was assigned to Spangdahlem.
Sgt. Klose had recently completed a leadership training course and was posthumously promoted to staff sergeant. This achievement was recognized and a commendation medal was awarded during a memorial service on May 28 at the Spangdahlem base.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Karen Klose; a sister, Alanna; his paternal grandmother, Beulah Klose; and his maternal grandparents, Betty and Philip Smith.
A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
