Plane lands safely at Batavia airport after warning about landing gear

BATAVIA – A Cessna airplane landed safely at the Genesee County Airport at 1:09 p.m. Thursday after circling the facility for about 45 minutes because of problems with the landing gear, according to a Genesee County Sheriff’s Department dispatcher.

The dispatcher said the plane’s sensor was showing that the landing gear wasn’t down. The initial call came in at 12:30 p.m.

Town of Batavia firefighters and Mercy paramedics were dispatched to the scene.

Reports indicated that all three landing wheels touched the ground when the plane landed.

Only the pilot was aboard the plane, which had about five hours’ worth of fuel remaining.
