Orleans Community Health in Medina and the union representing several hundred of the hospital’s workers early Thursday reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract.
The deal, which must be ratified by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East members next week, averts a one-day strike scheduled for Friday.
The previous contract between Orleans Community Health and 272 registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and service and maintenance workers represented by 1199SEIU expired Dec. 31. Union officials said workers and hospital administrators met 39 times to negotiate a new deal, with a federal mediator attending the last 10 sessions.
The tentative contract would run from Jan. 1, 2015, through Dec. 31, 2017, and include annual wage increases while maintaining step increases, a workers’ training and education fund and health benefits at their current cost to workers, according to a statement from 1199SEIU. Shift differentials would be continued or improved from the expired contract.
