Let’s focus on keeping church, state separate
What is happening to the concept of separation of church and state, one of the fundamental principles of our democracy? Elected officials and civil servants are refusing to perform certain functions of their office based upon their personal religious convictions.
These public servants have taken a sworn oath to uphold the laws and Constitution of our country, but now cry “religious freedom” in an attempt to circumvent the very laws they are sworn to uphold. If their religious beliefs are hindering the performance of their duties, perhaps they should seek other employment more suitable to their convictions.
All I ask is that the separation of church and state remain intact. Do not turn our democracy into a theocracy based upon someone’s beliefs, which many others may not share. Let’s not go backward to exclude, but rather move forward to include.
