Letter: People are smart to save for future

People are smart to save for future

It is disconcerting to read that economists are bemoaning the fact that Americans are spending less and saving more, this at a time when many families are living from paycheck to paycheck and have little or nothing put aside for a “rainy day.” Since when isn’t it a good thing to save for a possible job loss, a down payment on a home, your children’s college education or your retirement years?

Telling people to spend more is not an effective long-term strategy. Perhaps our government could take a lesson from its citizen taxpayers.
