Hamburg-based Evans Bancorp. ranked No. 99 on American Banker’s list of the top 200 publicly traded community banks and thrifts, moving up from No. 117 the year before.
The banks were ranked based on three-year average return on equity, a measure of a bank’s profitability. Evans’ was 10.35 percent, compared to 20.89 percent for the top-ranked bank.
Evans was the only Western New York-based community bank on the list, which ranked banks with total assets of $2 billion or less as of Dec. 31; 750 institutions qualified for the ranking.
