LOCKPORT – Amanda Cox, the largest individual fund-raiser at Lockport’s Relay for Life each of the past three years, was named the Town of Lockport’s Outstanding Youth of 2015 at Wednesday’s meeting of the Town Board.
The town Recreation Committee names the winner each year. Chairwoman Jeanine Shaw said Cox’s essay clinched the award. “Your essay was something to behold,” Shaw said.
Cox, a senior at Mount St. Mary’s Academy, said she has raised about $45,000 at the American Cancer Society relay in the past nine years. She also has volunteered at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church’s Outreach Center for 11 years, or since she was 7 years old. She also is an altar server at Masses at St. John’s.
Cox, the daughter and Constance and James Cox, will attend Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania this fall.
