Troopers say wrong-way driver on Thruway had a BAC of 0.31 percent

A wrong-way driver on the Thruway in Cheektowaga was found to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.31 percent – almost four times the legal limit, according to State Police.

Troopers got a report about the motorist shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. They were told the vehicle entered the westbound Thruway from the William Street exit after hitting numerous vehicles.

Troopers stopped the vehicle as it headed east in the westbound lanes. Its driver, Michelle M. Ando, 25, of Kenmore, was taken to the Buffalo barracks. She subsequently was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Ando was charged with misdemeanor counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, as well as leaving the scene of a property-damage auto accident, and multiple violations of vehicle and traffic law.

She was turned over to a sober third party at the hospital and issued tickets to appear in Cheektowaga Town Court on June 17.
