Pursuit of the hotel bed tax appears to be over in Amherst.
Amherst Supervisor Barry A. Weinstein canceled a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday afternoon when the Town Board was supposed to consider a resolution that asks the State Legislature to allow the town to impose a 1 percent tax on all hotel bills.
Weinstein said he withdrew the resolution when he got word from Albany that the State Legislature is never going to go for it.
“They basically said no town has a bed tax and if they gave it to us the state would have 500 more applications,” Weinstein said Tuesday afternoon.
“Which says to me,” Weinstein added, “it’s probably something that should be considered.”
