Lowdown: Fans who remember Louie DeBrusk likely recall him heading to the penalty box after dropping his gloves. He had 115 scraps in the NHL, according to HockeyFights.com. His son uses his hands to score – often. He tied for sixth in goals in the Western Hockey League.
DeBrusk has found a home near the net, doubling his point total after recording 15 goals and 39 points during his first season with Swift Current. He has a knack for finding space in the scoring areas, a trait that carries over well into the professional game. While he’s not nearly as pugnacious as his father, the work ethic was clearly passed down.
His skating is above average, but his acceleration could use work. His vision in the offensive zone is impressive, but he’ll need to make plays quicker at the next level. His awareness in the defensive zone needs work, though he’s not a liability.
They said it: “His work ethic is off the charts, but what also helps are those 42 goals he scored. He's a 40-goal scorer who does the dirty work in front of the net. His greatest strength is his compete level.” – Peter Sullivan, NHL Central Scouting
