Religious group founded on city’s West Side in 1926
The recent excellent article describing the group of Catholic young ladies aspiring to form a new congregation of nuns contained one inaccuracy. It said: “[This] could be the first religious community built from scratch in the Buffalo diocese.”
In fact, in 1926 Monsignor Joseph Gambino and the Rev. Aloysius Link founded the Missionary Sisters of the Divine Child, a congregation of religious women, to teach religious instruction to children in Holy Cross Parish on the lower West Side of Buffalo.
