Seth Watkins Bowen, professional tennis player

Seth Watkins Bowen, a former professional tennis player and a member of the Buffalo Tennis Hall of Fame, died unexpectedly Friday in Laguna Beach, Calif. He was 54.

Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Nichols School in 1979 and earned a finance/accounting degree from the University of Arizona in 1984. He was also captain of the tennis team for the university.

Mr. Bowen traveled to Africa, Europe and Australia on the tennis circuit and held a professional ATP World Ranking of No. 409 in singles and No. 334 in doubles. In 2001, he was the National Public Parks Open Singles Champion.

Mr. Bowen was inducted into the Buffalo Tennis Hall of Fame in 2006.

He was also a member of the Screen Actors Guild.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Bowen; a son, Sterling Chase; and four brothers, Lee, Scot, Kent and Eric.
